The new UV LEDs represent an evolutionary step in the expansion of UV product offerings. Bivar was one of the first to offer an industry standard high powered Ultraviolet (UV) LED Series in early 2002 with the introduction of the T-1 (3mm) and T-1 3/4 (5mm) 400nm UV devices.
Available in 3mm (UV3TZ ) and 5mm (UV5TZ ) through hole packages, each is comprised of four tightly binned wavelengths, 390, 395, 400, 405, with a wavelength tolerance of +/- 2.5 nm. The new UVTZ series provides 10-20 mW output while consuming only 15ma of current, and has a rated operational life of 10,000 hours compared to 1,000 to 2,000 hours of other commercially available devices.
Both packages are available with a narrow 15º and slightly wider 30º viewing angle. Each LED contains an integrated zener diode to provide enhanced ESD protection. All Bivar UV LED devices demonstrate high resistance to shock and vibration vs. traditional filament-based light sources. Like all Bivar LEDs, the UV3TZ Series and the UV5TZ Series LEDs are fully RoHS compliant.
Applications include activation of fluorescent ink, strips & fibres, counterfeit currency detection, finger print identification, leak detectors, medical devices and adhesive curing. UV LEDs are also found in a wide variety of industries including automotive, medical, manufacturing and biometrics / security. Low power consumption make these UV LEDs perfect for battery operated, hand held or portable devices.
