Power analyser for renewable energy systems

Yokogawa Australia has released a new power analyser, the WT500, which addresses the attention that renewable energy systems have been gaining of late.

It has the capability of simultaneous measurement of DC and AC signals and the ability to calculate system efficiency.

Separate integrate functions are included to enable evaluation of charge/discharge and bought/sold power in photovoltaic systems. Other applications include large current measurement for electrical appliances such as whitegoods, the evaluation of Energy Star rated home electronics products, variable speed motors and UPS systems.

Intuitive setup, use and control is assured due to the menu type screens with navigation (cursor) keys to guide the user.

Available with 1, 2 or 3 input elements, the WT500 provides single and 3-phase power measurement over a bandwidth of DC, 0.5Hz-100kHz with 0.1 per cent basic accuracy and direct input of 1000Vrms and 40Arms.

Higher currents can be measured via current clamps or shunts by using an optional external current sensor input. The unit features a large colour TFT display that can display data in a variety of formats including numerical, waveform (up to 5kHz), vector diagrams, trends and bar graphs.

It measures harmonic components up to the 50th order plus distortion factor can be measured with the optional Harmonics function. There is also an optionally available Delta Computation function that allows the calculation of individual phase voltage and current from line voltages and phase currents in a 3P-3W system.

Additional to the standard 2 channels of frequency measurement an option is available for measurement on all channels. Other options include GP-IB interface and a VGA output for external monitors. A wide range of accessories including current clamps, high frequency current transducers, safety cables and adaptors is available.

Measured data such as waveform, numerical, screen images and settings files can be stored directly to USB memory (up to 1GB) in CSV format form and opened in applications such as Excel. Software is available to transfer data to a PC via standard USB or optional Ethernet interface to display measured data including harmonics, voltage and current waveforms.
