The µPAC-7186EX is a palm-size programmable automation controller (PAC) featuring Ethernet, RS-232 and RS-485 communication. The manufacturer of the µPAC, ICP DAS of Taiwan can provide easy-to-use software development tool kits (for example, Xserver, VxComm, Modbus libraries).

Users can use the development tool kits to integrate serial devices with Ethernet/Internet communication ability and, through the standard Modbus protocol, to communicate with SCADA software (for example, Indusoft, ISaGARF, DasyLab, Trace Mode, Citect and iFix).

The µPAC-7186EX supports an I/O expansion bus which can be used to implement various I/O functions such as D/I, D/O, A/D, D/A, timer/counter, UART, flash memory, battery backup SRAM, ASIC key and other I/O functions. While nearly all kinds of I/O functions can be implemented by the bus, it can only support one board. There are more than 50 boards available for µPAC-7186EX.
