Modem

Hernan Alcerreca

Maxon Australia announced the launch of the ModMax MM6820IND industrial modem, a robust M2M (machine to machine) unit operating via HSDPA on the 3G network. The modem allows organisations with machines in regional areas, especially businesses currently using CDMA, to get reliable, secure data transfers from their remote machines.

The ModMax provides a direct swap for pre-existing CDMA devices, enabling simple migration of customer applications to the new 3G network via SIM card connectivity. Operating on a HSDPA enabled network, the ModMax offers a fast 3.6mbps download rate and 384kbps uplink through Packet Switching while still supporting Circuit Switched technology.

The ModMax is ideally suited to industrial telemetry requirements such as vehicle tracking and fleet management, automated remote meter reading (AMR), security systems, vending machines, marine applications, PLC and data logger requirements as well as variable message signs, with innovative features including:

An additional ‘diversity’ antenna that searches for the best available signal strength from surrounding base stations diverts traffic when base stations are overloaded and automatically provides a seamless cell update to the modem.

Remote feedback systems via SMS, so customers can check the input voltage or modem signal strength without the long round trip to the modem.
