The new Ceramos Reflector LED from Osram Opto Semiconductors provides high brightness and power in a very small package, making it the ideal solution for backlighting mid-size LCDs.

Specifically designed for light guide-based backlighting of displays in high ambient light conditions, such as those found in today's TFT displays, automotive dashboards and aircraft cockpits, the slim profile of the reflector is well suited for in-coupling into light guides as thin as 2mm.

This also makes it ideal for edge lighting for LCD TVs and monitors. It is powered by ThinGaN LED technology, which enables it to operate at a high level of optical efficiency - 70 lumens per watt at 80mA. It delivers 50,000 hours, and its SMD ceramic package enables performance at high operating temperatures (up to 150°C), and is compatible with standard surface mount processes.

The slim, compact package dimensions (2.3 x 3.2 x 0.8 mm) facilitate integration into small display designs, and the oval out-coupling window allows for use in thinner light guides. Mercury-free and RoHS-compliant, the new reflector LED can be used for camera flash and strobe lighting; reading lamps in aircraft, cars and buses; decorative and entertainment lighting; and signage or marker lights.
